PULS DC UPS Improves Reliability and Reduces Battery Maintenance Costs
CITI LLC (Charlotte, NC) a leading provider of water control system integration services in the southeastern United States improves RTU (Remote Telemetry Unit) reliability and performance with PULS DC-UPS. Working with PULS, LP and technical sales representative Trapp Industrial Sales, CITI implemented the PULS single battery concept DC–UPS controllers to provide back up power
to the controller, sensors and communication devices in the event of a power loss to their system.
Lift stations and fresh water storage tanks often require communication even in the event of a power outage and/or backup generator failure. The critical nature of these remote sites require flow and level data be communicated via radios or other wireless devices and require a highly reliable solution. The unique single battery concept from PULS eliminates the problems encountered with the traditional method of using two 12V batteries in series. The concept enables a safe and reliable system by focusing on long battery lifetime and superior battery management.
Trapp Industrial Sales representatives introduced the PULS system to Marco Varella, President of CITI LLC, who was immediately interested in the new technology and the benefits it would provide to his customers. Shortly thereafter a formal review meeting took place where PULS, LP Director of Sales Matt Biskner presented the features and advantages of the PULS single battery concept DC-UPS controllers to Engineering Manager Eric Allen and team members Luis Hurtado and
Cesar Hernandez. During this meeting it was discovered CITI LLC could benefit from the PULS UB10.245 dual voltage DC-UPS controller that provides fully stabilized 24VDC and 12VDC output voltages from a single 12VDC battery. This unique dual voltage DC-UPS controller reduced the number of components required to build a back up system from 5 to only 3 while also providing the reliability required.
Additional Benefits of the PULS one battery concept DC-UPS system include:

The CITI Engineering team agreed the PULS DC-UPS solution offered significant improvements over their current back up system and it was in their customers’ best interest to use the PULS system.
CITI LLC also successfully implemented the PULS CD5.121 DC/DC converter that accepts the 24VDC signal from the DC-UPS and provides a 15VDC output to provide back up power for their customers’ RTU panels that incorporate a 15VDC radio. This allows CITI LLC to offer a consistent DC-UPS solution while also providing the required DC voltages for a variety of control and communications platforms.

Using the PULS DC-UPS live demonstration unit (see video) the PULS proposed changes were introduced to two municipal water utilities by Trapp Industrial Sales and CITI field operations managers Leo Jurado and Anthony Ciresi. Both utilities agreed that this system will ultimately reduce cost with improved battery management and increase system reliability through the built in battery test and high MBTF ratings. The PULS UB10 series DC-UPS controllers along with the PULS power supplies and DC/DC converters is the best choice for CITI and several NC municipal utilities. |
